LASFS WILL WELCOME YOU Official headquarters of the 4th World Science Fiction Convention will be in a hotel in Hollywood; but unofficial headquarters will be in a little room on Wilshire Boulevard. The new meeting place of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society. There fans can meet to get away from the usual noisy confusion of the official headquarters, to talk with friends, to play a quiet game of chess, to re-read old favorite fantasies from the club library, or to plan expeditions into nearby downtown Los Angeles. The apartment house where the clubroom is located is on a little rise through which Wilshire Boulevard cuts, and the clubroom is in front facing the Boulevard. As many as thirty or forty people can be accommodated, (with a bit of crowding) and the appearance of the room would delight the heart of any fan. Colorful originals hang from the walls and along one wall are shelf after shelf housing virtually complete files of the major science fiction magazines. In a closet in one corner is housed the famous "green-ink" mimeograph and its supplies. Los Angeles fandom seems to be drawing together with the new clubroom as a nucleus. Already a considerable number of the members have become located within walking distance of it. Pogo lives in the same house, Morojo just across the street, Charly Hornig only a few blocks away and Henry Kasse, Dave Elder, and Paul Freehafer all less than a mile away. Cost of the clubroom is born by a large number of the club members, and thus the continued existence of our meeting place is assured. Lists of names and addresses of members possessing keys for the room will be in a later issue, so that you will be able to gain access to it as soon as you arrive in Los Angeles. Come one, come all! The Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society is more than pleased to welcome the convention to its new permanent headquarters. FF SCIENTIFICINEMATORIALLY Speaking Those of you who'll be coming to the Convention from communities of small population where they very possibly don't have Revival- Theaters like in New York, Chicago and the larger centers, I'd be almost willing to bet you a dollar to an old ticket stub that you'll be able to see some favorite scientifilms here if you have the time. The Vogue, the Towne, the Olympic, the Cinema, the Filmarte and a number of others feature request revivals regularly, and at the Nickelodeon they even bring back silents like "Thief of Bagdad", "The Lost World", "Tarzan of the Apes", and "The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari". If we could determine well enough in advance what particular pix you men and gals most muchly want to see, it's possible we West Coasters could do a bit of discreet ballot box blasting to send a little weight to Fate, as it were. To my personal knowledge, the following fantasy films have been revived around town during the past three months, many of them not once but on several occasions: KING KONG, SON OF KONG, THINGS TO COME, TRANS ATLANTIC TUNNEL, LAST DAYS OF POMPEII, TELL-TALE HEART, BERKLEY SQUARE, THE CLAIRVOYANT, THE SCOUNDREL, VAMPIRE BAT, INVISIBLE MAN RETURNS. How's that for a list without straining my memory? And then shows like the Regina & La Tosca are always having Triple Horror features, like "KING OF THE ZOMBIES, CHAMBER OF HORRORS, and INVISIBLE GHOST on the program. Of course, they have a peculiar little habit of tacking phoney handles on some of your old favorites, like they may call THE MAN WHO LIVED AGAIN, DR. MANIAC, or THE MOST DANGEROUS GAME becomes SKULL ISLAND. Still, we generally know what's behind those nom-de-screen, and will steer you right. Also, we have plays here, like LADIES IN RETIREMENT, R.U.R., BEFORE METHUSELAH and DRACULA. FJA. ALL SOCIETY MEMBERS WILL RECEIVE THEIR STICKERS WITH NEXT PACIFICONEWS
