5....THE FANTASITE Another thing: I have given over the issue mainly to articles such as "The Future of Science Fiction", "The Minneapolis Fantasy Society", and "Argosy Fiction in 1940", with the thought in mind that this sort of material is enjoyed by all, and also that it gives a lot of good reading. I have deliberately avoided using fiction because there are enough fan publications that feature it in every issue. And then, it isn't so easy to get decent fan fiction. But if enough should express their desire for it, I shall see what I can do. How do you like the frontispiece this issue? I claim all the credit for "discovering" Bob Jones, the artist. Unfortunately, my temperamental hekto ruined one of his beautiful pics intended as a frontispiece, and through carelessness I failed to duplicate the required number of copies of another. But he came across with a third drawing without a murmur of protest! Next issue I plan on having more art work by him, and also Bob Studley. And maybe I can persuade Tom Wright to come across with some illustrations, thus having three artists in one issue. As you may have noticed, THE FANTASITE is now a member of STARLIGHT PUBLICATIONS made up of "Stfandoms Acme of the Amateurs". I demand that you read The California Mercury, The Comet, and Sangri-La & The Rocket every issue. (Although I haven't had so much as a glimpse at either of the last two, Daugherty!) There is an error on page 14, and I apologize. Above the dates should be the word "Received", with the exception of July 23, above which should be "Sent". By another mistake I forgot to include the names of S. L. Lessig and Emrya Evans in the list of expired subs on page nine. A word here about the Indiana Fantasy Association. You'll want to join when you know that the IFA has a lending library of fantasy books and magazines which is constantly being enlarged, and that as a member you get the IFA-Review every issue, and that you also get a generous supply of membership stickers. Join if only to get the Review! For full particulars write Ted Dikty, 3136 Smith Street, Ft. Wayne, Indiana. I am wondering what has happened to the CFS Review and the Denventioneer. The Review, it seems, should have seen more than one issue, and the Denventioneer is long overdue, though I believe the latter has not been receiving the proper and vital support. I guess it is definite that The Alchemist will be or is discontinued. If the number of subscriptions to The Fantasite increases much more I shall be forced to have it mimeographed! This hekto is producing far more readable copies than the average gelatin duplicator, but still not enough to handle many more subs. In view of the fact that so many of the readers seem to prefer the present, hektoed format to mimeo, it would be unfortunate to have to duplicate it in the latter fashion! Ah, comes the time to plug the next issue! If your subscription expires with this issue, or if this is just a sample copy, I suggest that you shoot a little legal tender this way. Aside from a poem by Art Lambert, I couldn't say definitely what the next issue will contain, but it will be worth your while, most assuredly! In conclusion, let me remind you that Yngvi is a louse! ---------------------------------- nnnnnn-o-o-o-nnnnn-o-o-o-nnnnn-o-o-o-nnnnn-o-o-o-nnnnn-o-o-o-o-nnnnn-o-o-o-nnn ----------------------------------
