THE FANTASITE 18 ted culture".....I suppose everyone knows by now that there are three Futurian editors of professional science-fiction, Pohl, Wollheim, and Doc Lowndes who took over the post on SCIENCE FICTION and FUTURE FICTION vacated by Hornig..... Hazel Shull, a fair-haired student of the occult and s-f and who was at the Chicon and author of POW WOW, wrote me an interesting anecdote which I am taking the liberty to repeat. About Christmas time she visited the Richard Franks in Huntington, Pa. It seems that Rich's boss owned a haunted house, which, so the town folk tell, is honest-to-goodness haunted; and MIss Shull was invited to their home to dehaunt it. "And when I got there," she writes, "there were seven very intelligent, learned people, much older than myself, waiting for me to talk to them. The ghost didn't appear that night; it hasn't appeared consistently for two years and apparently that was its night out.." Since the ghost failet to appear, Hazel revealed some of her esoteric knowledge, and they liked it so much that Hazel says it was worse than a quiz program. By the time the wee hours has turned up, everyone had had too much Christmas cheer, and so the evening was brought to a close with table tapping. FANTASIA, a new fanzine effort which deserves very hearty commendation, presents a piece by Borris Hyman called "Danse Grotesque". It has occurred to me that fans, by and large, are musically minded. I remember Walt Libescher playing the paino which was falling apart just outside the Chicon Hall. Then there was Chuck Wright who played the piano in a dance band at a joint in Chicago. On the heavier side we have Chuck Chandler and his violin and Harry Warner and his oboe. On the corny side we have your columnist on his Tonette. SHHH!! Don't Look Now! But the sixth issue of FANFARE will be out soon, and then you can look all you want to--at: The second sensational mutant cover! (It's spicy too! For men only!) Genuine plans for a rocket ship! This is your chance to build one! The second installment of that column of columns Joe Gilbert's Slan-der! Complete write-up of that unique conference --- THE BOSKONE! Other material by Chauvenet, Tucker, Wisks, Hamling, Davis etc And all of FANFARE's popular apartments; Fan Questions & Answers, Dots, Poll News, Gems from the Fan Press, and -- Strange Interludes -- biggest and bestest reader's column outside of VoM. Oh-- you want to know where to get this bargain? That's easy, chum. Just send a dime or two bits for three, to: Art Widner Jr, Box 122, Bryantville, Mass.
