ier fan mags is the first page drawing. It's good as such drawings go, but such drawings (scaly Venusians and sizzling ray-guns, I mean) don't match the rest of the mag's quality. The Fantasite's standard is unusually high for hekto'd fan magazines, and shouldn't let anything hack restrain its uniqueness. The hektographing, incidentally, is beyond compare. It couldn't be better. I'm really glad to see such a swell fan mag come into existence in these parts. It's something Twin City fans always though was necessary, but somehow we couldn't get one rolling. I'll be anxiously awaiting the next issue. BOB JONES The Fantasite was received here last Friday (the 21st). Now I will go thru the mag from cover to cover. The front cover was perfect... Please don't use colored paper tho.. it detracts a great deal from the drawing ((!)). Flyleaf. Swell. Our Martian friend with the Fantasite projecto-ray was splendidly drawn as was his companion with many faceted eyes ((Hm-m.. compare this letter with the above and note the difference of opinions)) The botched up title page was bad.. while trying vainly to read it, my attention was drawn from the print to the madly hopping colored hands. Pages four to six were all right.. but then came "Tale of the Terrible Typer" Ugh! Lay off'n the nut stuff, will you?? Three of those horrible things in twenty--four pages just about finished me. Fanmag reviews are always good for fillers and otherwise. Intrigue in the Fantasite editorial room! How in the devil's name did "Intrigue on a Space Liner" get in here ?? The aforesaid concerning nut stuff still applies. Fantasips was fine ... Donn Brazier deserves a great big lurid "A" for it. Antediluvian World was just the thing. I like to see articles like that in fan publications. Many more like it please. Your reader's section was terrific and although I cannot suggest a new name for it I will encourage its continuance. Don't worry too much about the straight right edges. I was amazed at the fine hektograph work.I wish to congratulate you. ((many thanks!)) MARVIS MANNING Must take time right now to send my appreciation of the #1 FANTASITE. It is very pleasing thru-out. One thing I want to compliment you on on this ish is the extreme neatness. It's 100% neat. In this day of printed and lithoed and multi-colored mimeod mags, it is amazing to find how pleasing a neat and well balance hectographed mag can be. Will use the Harry Warner, 1 to 10 rating for the contents:-- Cover; the cover combination was good and rates 9. Contents page; clever, another 9. Frontspiece; still another 9. Fanta-Notes; Editorials are my favorite pages in mags, this interesting: 8. Notes and Nuts on the Chicon; heading 7: article 7. Bob should have elaborated a bit more on the subject, or maybe he is saving up for future articles; the subject should be endless. Tale of the Terrible Typer; Bradbury gets 7. Fan Mag Review; 8. Very nice arrangement ( Thanx for the Pluto review) Intrigue on a Space Liner; 7. Fantasips by Donn Brazier 8. This is an exceptional column; should be a regular feature ((It is! And how do you like it in this issue?)) Antediluvian World. Good article, but Atlantis doesn't appeal to me so much so will rate it 7. Readers section; 8. The next ish should be even more interesting in this feature. Confessions of a Ghost Writer; 7. Advertisements -- 9. Pictorial Interpretation pge 21-7. You sure do get some nice effects in your use of hekto colors. ((You didn't rate anything below a 7!)) Well, Phil. that is my reaction to your #1 Fantasite. As a prediction. I'll voice the opinion that Fantasite will become a mighty popular fan mag. ((Thanx Marvis, and I hope your prediction comes true!)) Brief Comments: ART WIDNER-- Fantasite just came today and it's swell. Hektoing almost as good as Fanfare and illustrations better. Amazed to see my "Confessions" in print after 2 yrs. That Ms. sure got kicked around. May continue the series if I get an inspiration.
