Rates: 3 issues 10 ¢ ; 8 issues 25¢ ;32 iss.$1.00 Vol. 6 SUNDAY MAY 4 1941 NO. 16 DE CAMP'S SECOND BOOK OUT AROUND SEPTEMBER 25,1941 (Special to FN) News arrived this week that L. Sprague de Camp will have his second book out by Sept. 25,1941. The name of the book is THE INCOMPLETE ENCHANTER by de Camp & Fletcher Pratt. It comprises the lst two Harold Shea stories, bolixed to let boy get girl at the end of the 2nd. story instead of the 3r as published in UNKNOWN. The first Shea novel was printed in the May 21940 UNKNOWN with a cover by M Isip;the second in the August 1940 UNKNOWN. The book is being published by HENRY HOLT & CO, who also printed de Camp's first book LEST DARKNESS FALL. The new book will be changed somewhat from the story as it appeared in UNKNOWN. (JVT) ODD NEWS Fletcher Pratt's book TOTAL WAR, came out recently after some delay, De Camp has sold Campbell the longest article for ASTOUNDING that that magazine has ever run entitled THE SEA-KING'S ARMORED DIVISION. The new SPITFIRE COMICS out soon, will be a new smaller sized magazine than the regular comics, 5 1/4 '' x 7 1/4 '' and will contain 100 pages. COMETEER, Jon [Giunta?] has [a?] 11 page fantasy cartoon entitled THE MAGICIAN FROM BAGDAD. Other stf fantasy cartoons in the magazine are FLY-MAN and THE SPITFIRE. 10¢, published bi-monthly. [DENVENTION?] IN 1941 SUPER SCIENCE NOVELS and ASTONISHING STORIES REPORTED TO HAVE GONE QUARTERLY! Astonishing has skipped June iss. A report has reached the office of FANTASY-NEWS that both SUPER-SCIENCE NOVELS and its companion magazine ASTONISHING STORIES have both gone quarterly. It is known that ASTONISHING has skipped its June issue, and will also skip its October issue, making the next two 1941 issues dated AUGUST and DECEMBER. When the quarterly of SUPER SCIENCE will start is not known. FANTASY-NEWS publishes this news for what it may be worth, as no direct news has been received from the editorial office of the two magazines. (JVT) 8 FINLAY DRAWINGS OUT IN PORTFOLIO FORM. Received recently, was the Portfolio of Virgil Finlay drawings published by FAMOUS FANTASTIC MYSTERIES. They are published on super slick paper sized 9'' x 12''. The drawings themselves are the same size as they appeared in the magazine, which is the same size as Finlay draws them. Placed side by side with the originals, there is no different. The 8 drawings are from the THE REBEL SOUL, THE FACE IN THE ABYSS, THE DRAGON GLASS, THE PEOPLE OF THE PIT, THE CONQUEST OF THE MOON POOL and THE BLIND SPOT. With the 8 drawings an index is given naming all the drawings. More of these drawings may be issued in the future which is an excellent idea. (LS)
