EDITORIAL AN APOLOGY AND A PROMISE YOUR new editor regrets that he must start off his first editorial with an apology. When I was first approached by Mr. Dunkelberger with the suggestion that I become editor, I had quite a few doubts of my ability. More than that, I hadn't the faintest idea of what I would be expected to do. Unlike previous editors, I had never published a fan magazine before, and had none of the facilities for publishing. I wrote him, saying in effect, that if I were to become editor, I would, in truth, be only the editor-- and the printer and publisher would have to be someone else. Since then, I have learned a lot more about editing, and quite a bit about publishing. Director Tarr and I have begun a joint publication, and my application for membership into the F. A. P. A. has been passed upon favorably. I have gone into the editing business with a vengeance. But when you start everything at once, you've really got your hands full. I am reminded of that old Chaucerian couplet: Ye rose is redde; ye violette blewwe; Don'tte byte offe moor yan you canne chewwe.
