JOB DESCRIPTION RESIDENT MANAGER OF THE CHICANO INDIAN-AMERICAN CULTURAL CENTER The Manager of the Chicano Indian-American CUltural Center (hereafter called the Center) is responsible for the internal management and programmatic coordination of all activities of the Center. Due to the diverse and multi-faceted nature of the Center and its activities, the position of manager is an extremely important one, and by design, is a residential one (i.e., as a condition, as well as a benefit of employment, the Center will serve as a domicile for the manager). It is the hope that residential management will foster a sense of "home" at the Center and facilitate the development of a community atmosphere with the manager as a nuclear element in the community. The manager should be a person with a sincere sense of dedication to the Center and its founding concepts, and be willing to spend considerable time and energy toward the overall management of the Center. [[underline]]REQUIREMENTS OF EMPLOYMENT[[end underline]] The character of the Center will generally assume the attitude of the manager and the Center staff. However, there are some tasks which the manager is directly responsible and will be accountable. Those duties generally include: a) The screening of applicants, selection and evaluation of persons to serve in the Center work-study staff. Those staff positions are: Administrative Assistant, Office Manager, Secretary, Newsletter Editor, Assistant Newsletter Editor, Teatro Director, Project Coordinator, Historian, Librarian, and Pre-School Director. (Positions may be added or deleted as the functions of the Center change upon the approval of the Assistant Director for the Coordination of Chicano Indian-American Programs and the Director of Special Support Services.); b) Providing for the physical security of the Center; c) The specification of space utilization, hours, etc. for the Center; d) The official representation of the Center at meetings and University functions; 3) the planning and submitting of the Center's budget and the subsequent monitoring of the Center's financial expenditures including monitoring of financial eligibility of work-study staff; f) The preparation and presentation of periodic reports and proposals; g) The support and/or advocacy of those programs and activities which will enhance the environment for the members of the Chicano and Indian-American community at The University of Iowa; and h) Any other responsibilities which may be deemed appropriate for the position by the Assistant Director for Coordination of Chicano Indian-American Programs and/or the Director of Special Support Services.
