MINORITY PROGRAMS CONSULTANT BASIC FUNCTION AND RESPONSIBILITY: To plan and coordinate the development, presentation, formalization, and continuity of ethnically-related programs on The University of Iowa campus. CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Locate and counsel minority fine arts students (for matriculation at the The University of Iowa) in order to nurture the continuity and smooth transition of leadership for such groups as El Teatro, Black Genesis, Voices of Soul, Native American Dance Troupe, etc. Development of fine arts outreach efforts (i.e., booking off-campus performances, locating students). Assist student groups to develop, implement, administer and evaluate film and radio programs, concerts, lectures, photography festivals, art displays, and other student-centered cultural and academic programs. General liaison and facilitation of the development of education, recreational, and entertainment programs for special interest groups, e.g., Afro-American Cultural Center, Chicano-Native American Cultural Center, Black Student Union, and Chicano-Native American Student Union. Provide for the full involvement of minorities through cooperative planning in general University activities, e.g., Homecoming, Parents' Weekend, special awards, etc. Meet with community and professional groups to discuss various aspects of minority student-centered organizations and their activities. Act as a liaison between students and student organizations and University departments as required. Entertainment program consultant to the Commission for Alternative Programming as applied to minority/cultural programming in cooperation with other Student Activity staff. OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist minority student academically-oriented organizations (i.e., CHALE, BALSA, Black Nursing Students, etc.) Advise and consult with students on operational activities of minority student organizations. Coordinate meetings and educational programs for specific areas of assignment. Act as group facilitator for cultural or general development conferences and seminars as appropriate. Interview applicants and recomment employment of office and supportive clerical staff to the Directors of Special Support Services and Student Activities.
