In so doing, the UI considers many relevant factors which Strang characterizes as objective. However, even so-called objective criteria are often standardized preferences upon which we have come to rely. Test scores alone don't describe the whole person, nor do leadership experiences alone, particularly if leadership is narrowly defined. AT least Strang gets it right in his final paragraph. He states: "People of different backgrounds do bring valuable insights about the world in which we live. To find out how each will add to the diversity of the UI, we must look to the individual to see what qualities that person will bring, discarding worn-out racial and gender stereotypes that are unfair to all involve."
