6 The rally, originally scheduled for the Pentacrest was moved inside because of heavy rains. Most university classes continued despite a national call for a student strike. Hold it right there, now I don't know if I want to go along with that. I spent all this money to go to this place and now I'm supposed to strike. Chicanos are here to get an education, if you want to strike let's do it on the racism in this country. I'm not defending the war, but let's be realistic. Finals are not too far away, so I'll be damned if I boycott classes. Raza strike, hell no! Career Day The Chicano House was the scene for Chicanos and Blacks interested in seeking future jobs with the various job representatives. If you were one of the Chicanos who attended this session, you'll know that it was a worthwhile experience. One of the people who I met was Mrs. Wilda Stephenson, representative of the Midwestern Teacher Corns from the University of Nebraska. Mrs. Stephen-had some interesting topics concerning Chicanos and what role Chicanos could play in the Teacher Corns Program. The session held was not formal, all you had to do was walk around and meet the various representatives of job firms. I met Mr. Silas S. Ewing, President of Spencer. Ewing and Associates Inc. from Des Moines. Mr. Ewing's firm represents a Professional Personnel Consultants Company which deals with minority groups for job placement. I was fascinated by what he had to say about the numerous opportunity awaiting minority groups when they got out of college. Many people have trouble finding jobs because t they don't know where to look. Mr. Ewing's firm is there to anyone who wants help. For any information concerning job opportunities stop at the Chicano House for you out of town Chicanos, write us at the Chicano Indian-American Student Union, 115 N. Clinton Iowa City, Iowa 52240 Luncheon A luncheon was given in the Old Gold Room of the Student Union, April 7. This luncheon was given in conjunction with the Career Fair. This editor, Greg Vasquez, Donna O. & Eliza S. all sat together near the door--just in case. Across from us sat Norris Batts, a guy we all know and love from Special Support. Next to him was a familiar face but we couldn't figure out who he was. After some small talk about the weather and family he introduced himself as Sandy Boyd--otherwise known as President Willard Boyd. What a jolt. You never know who you gonna run into at a banquet I guess. What impressed me was that Mr. Boyd didn't introduce himself as Willard-Boyd President, University of Iowa, but just as a man named Sandy Boyd, cool.
