((A?))ssistant manager for the Center is Nufe Ramirez. This year Nufe is involved in getting the darkroom started at the House. Should the funds become available, a 35mm cameraand an enlarger will be purchased to be kept in a darkroom in the basement of the House, along with other supplies necessary for photo developing. Elia Ildefonso takes care of the Center's office. She types and keeps files of all Union and Center correspondences and transactions. Diolanda Barrera and Gloria Pantoja are her assistants. All three are secretaries for the different activities located in the House. Arturo Ramirez is director of Teatro Zapatista. He is in charge of the business aspects of the troupe and also takes care of travel arrangements. His main job though, is to direct the troupe in selecting and developing scripts into actos of social and political significance. [pic of clenched fist] The Genaro Vasquez Pre-School is cooridinated by Eddie Ildefonso. Within the last couple of years, Eddie has been able to assemble a large variety of books, magazines, records and audio-visual equipment. All this equipment is stored at El Centro Unido in West Liberty, about 16 miles from Iowa City. Each Saturday morning students from the University of Iowa go to West Liberty to conduct classes for Chicanitos living there. Work of this type is possibly one of the most rewarding for studentsseekinga ((ch?))allenge of moral rather than economic profit. Students interested should definitely get in touch wit Eddie. Call the Center. This newsletter you are reading and a magazine called Nahautzen, which we hope will be coming out soon, are put together by Teresa Rodriguez and Andy Rodriguez. The newsletter exists to gather into one publication information pertinent to Union and Center activities as well as issue sof national and world interest. Nahautzen contains literary work produced by Native Americans and Chicanos on campus as well as reprints of contemporary Chicano and Indian prose and poetry. Nicholas Aguilera is the "custodial engineer" for la Casa. Nico is responsible for keeping the House "neat" through weeks of day-in, day-out usage, as well as after parties and other such parrandas. Sylvia Ramirez is the new coordinator for the Ft. Madison Prison visitations (see p.2). Elsa Nava is the woman responsible for transforming the library from a roomful of books and periodicals to a room containing a systemitized collection of reading and resource material. Lindsy Young is assistant librarian. He and Elsa have spent hours cataloging and arranging the publications into the Dewey Decimal System (see p.5). These people have taken jobs which are designed to make University life easier for you, the students. The activities of the House have been created to fill gaps (intentional or otherwise) in the gringo university. If you are even a little interested in any of the programs mentioned here, be sure to contact the person heading whatever activity you want information about.
