NEW CIASU OFFICERS ELECTED CIASU elections were held April 29, at the CIACC. Before nominations were offered and voting began, a discussion of the responsibilities and critical aspects involved with each respective office was held. Of the nominations presented to the union members for consideration of the various offices to be assumed by new individuals, the following were voted into office: Arnulfo Ramirez, Chairperson, James Pushetonequa, and Randy Terronez, vice-chairpersons; Wanda Dye, Secretary; and Elia Ildefonso, Treasurer. These five persons now make up the new officers of the CIASU to officially assume and undertake their respective offices beginning June 1976. However, all five persons have already addressed themselves to immediately accept the responsibilities, and the work entailed thereof, and to assist the present officers in carrying out the duties of their respective offices. They share with their office-holding counterparts the concerns of coping with the problems that Chicano and Native American students must contend with at this university, and this visualizations of enhancing the purposes and goals of the CIASU. To all members of the union, the newly elected officers would like to express their willingness in receiving any and all comments and suggestions about the union. EL TEATRO ZAPATISTA El Teatro Zapatista has again been very active this year. Performances have been varied and well received. In November, the Teatro performed an acto as part of the activities for the CHALE Law Conference. In February, as a feature of recent recruitment efforts, the Teatro gave several presentations for the community of Galesberg(?), Illinois. Other performances have included a gig at Muscatine, Illinois, where Teatro performed for high school students - it was the first experience of that kind for Teatro, and the result was incredible: the interest it created among the students there was unique and much discussion came about because for many, it was their first awakening to Chicanismo and Teatro Chicano. More students have taken part in the Teatro this year; particularly in the preparations that were done for a performance held in Lincoln,Nebraska, as part of the activities of "Chicano Awareness Week" that was set up during the week of April 12-17th on the University of Nebrask campus. El Teatro put on a two and one-half hour production in conjunction with the activities there. Performance included actos from "Los Vendidos", "This is your Life", "El Dia De Los Crickets", and "Jive Guajolotes". Los Bailadores Zapatista performed dances such as "La Revolucion", "La Cumbia", "El Jarabe Tapatio", and others. Completing the program was a special element of Teatro's repertoire: a group of muscians and singers got together whose combined talents, when they did their onda the night of the performance, rocked the audience. The theme of El Teatro's presentation was a capsular history of La Raza from the Revolution of 1910 to Today as expressed by some of the forms and shapes that have evolved from the Chicano Experience. It was as much a portrayal or rendition (small in stature though it was) of the psych of Chicanos as represented by artistic levels, wide and self-focussing in their meaning and significance. The efforts of El Teatro this year have been emotively mixed with tidings of anxiety. Arturo Ramirez, director of Teatro Zapatista for the past three years (and whose influence reaches beyond mere years) will have been graduated from law school by the time this is read. His absence, his inspiration and guidance will be deeply felt. His work has been truly immeasurable; and the value derived by each of us who has learned from him, utterly inestimable, and beyond exact expression. 3
