CHALE, as we are normally referred to, is a group of Chicano, Latino and Anglo law students at the University of Iowa. We see as our main function the recruitment and retention of all minority students at the College of Law. To this effort we devote much time, money, effort locating and informing undergraduate, graduate, and community people about the advantages of attending law school at the University of Iowa. At this point we would like to apologize for our failure to fully tap the pool of Latino students here at Iowa. To compensate for this gross mistake, we are encouraging all students interested in a legal career to join CHALE and become part of our overall plan. We will attempt to counsel students on the advantages of a legal career and facilitate their efforts in attending Iowa or any other law school. CHALE plans numerous educational activities during the school year with the emphasis on legal issues. prominent speakers and films are brought in, and are presented at the law school. We try and emphasize current Chicano events in our selection process. We are currently planning with the CIACC a seminar on Poverty Law which will be tentatively held March 31, 1978. Additionally other speakers and films are being located for presentation during the Spring Semester. We encourage all students to contact us on any legal educational or career problem. We will try to answer all questions as to a legal career. Call us at 353-4242 from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. Submitted by David Ramirez CHALE Representative [emblem]
