The UNIVERSITY of SOUTHERN COLORADO announces Canto Al Pueblo III June 8-15, 1979 [hand drawing of bleeding flower to the right] The University of Southern Colorado is asking for Chicano writers to submit "new, non-published material...for consideration for the Canto Al Pueblo III Anthology" which will be printed by the time the Canto festival opens on June 8, 1979 in Pueblo, Colorado. Poets, novelists, essayists should send manuscripts which they wish published. To assure quality and balance, the editorial committee is asking that the work not exceed four (4) typed, double-spaced pages. If you comply with this request, they won't have "to butcher you poems, stories, essays, etc." Photography is also being accepted. Photographers should submit only 8 X 10 glossy black and white prints. Limit entries to six (6). The schedule for the Canto Al Pueblo Anthology has an ABSOLUTE deadline of January 3, 1979. To comply with the National Endowment for the Arts' guidelines, the committee requests that writers submit a letter of intent and a recent vita. The letter of intent should be brief and inform the Canto Al Pueblo administration what your "intentions" are should your work be selected to appear in the Anthology. Please indicate which materials (if any) you wish to be returned to you. Note that all copyright privileges become those of the Canto Al Pueblo National Board, (those materials that are chosen to be printed in the Anthology). The Canto Al Pueblo National Board makes the final and absolute decisions. We hope everyone out there who writes, privately or publicly, will seriously consider sending work to Canto Al Pueblo. Many such anthologies and festivals have been taking place all over the country in recent years and the corpus of writers (and their work) who have participated and contributed to Chicano Literature is indeed impressive. The Floricanto festivals and anthologies, for example, have displayed the work of many talented writers, some distinguished, others virtually unknown. These events, Floricanto, Canto Al Pueblo, and others, represent the highest efforts today among raza poets, novelists, to shape a revolutionary art.
