ACTIVITIES PAST The CIASU and CIACC sponsored a picnic at City Park which was attended by approximately 60 people on June 21. It was a tremendous success! CIASU- The Union held a very fruitful meeting in June at which a new Chairperson was elected: Victor H. Ramfrez. Congratulations are in order., We are looking forward to his leadership. On Saturday, July 12, a most historic occasion took place in Iowa city. Mischelle Elaine Rios, was honored with Iowa City's very first quinceuera. The occasion took place at St. Patrick's Church followed by a reception at the VFW on Hwy 6. ACTIVITIES TO COME The CIASU will hold its next meeting on Monday July 21 at 7:30 p.m. Don't forget the Duran-Leonard fight this Saturday, 7/19 Rudolph Thomas Juarez will be ordained into the priesthood on Saturday July 19 at 10:30 a.m. at Sacred Heart Cathedral 422 East 10th Street Davenport Iowa A reception will follow the ordination at: St John Vienney 4097 18th Street Bettendorf Iowa And to further celebrate a dance will be held that evening at: Sheraton Motor Inn Rock Island, Illinois On Wednesday July 23 at 7:30 p.m. Mark Mathis, graduate student in Journalism will present a slide show which he has been working on for a project at the CIACC. The show is intended as a public relations resource for The University of Iowa,. CIASU members and all interested persons are encouraged to attend and provide input as to its representativeness. Refreshments will be provided. We have received a sample copy of METAS, a new journal published by Aspire of America, Inc. The journal is scholarly and quite informative. Available at CIACC. On Saturday, August 9, 1980 la Comision del Obispo de los bispano parlentes del Diocesis de Davenporty, Iowa, will meet at the CIACC at 10:00 a.m. Anyone interested in the activities and plans of this commission is welcome to attend. Economic and Political Power for Chicanos is the central demand and theme of the 10 year Anniversary Chicano Moratorium March and Rally to be held August 30, 1980 in East Los Angeles California. La Alienza Latina Politica de Iowa will meet in Des Moines on Saturday, September 6th, La Alienza is planning a fund-raising dance for that evening.
