[very faint type] Iowa 'CASA' Foundation 'Chicano Alumni, Students and Anglos SUMMER 1980 Dear Alumni, Students and Amigos: CASA is alive and well and looking forward to its second annual celebration to be held in September. The purpose of the celebration is twofold: 1) to officially inaugurate CASA and 2) to raise funds for the CASA scholarship. A Dance will be held and will be followed by a business meeting. By that time we will be officially incorporated and ready to implement the [[?]] id as expressed in October. Specific information will be forwarded as it becomes finalized. HELP: The CIACC/CIASU are developing a bilingual slide presentation for prospective students and their parents. We are requesting any slides that you may have from past events or current slides of you and your families with a brief biographical statement -- ie. What you're doing and what The University of Iowa meant to you. Upon completion it is intended that the presentation can either accompany a recruiter or be sent to Chicano communities for review. The script will be [[?]] with appropriate music dialogue. This might be the type of project CASA can support - any contributions earmarked for this project would be appreciated. Copies could be made and sent to the various regions to assist the CIACC in its outreach effort. Happenings at The University of Iowa 1979 - 1980 During February, Chicano students met with President Willard Boyd to discuss programs and services necessary to meet the needs of Chicano and Native Americans. Following the meeting, Hector Perez was named Acting Program Associate to assist Special Support Services in responding to student concerns. Hector has also been busy meeting an interdisciplinary approach. The CIACC/CIASU sponsored a high school visitation program in March. Over 60 high school students from Southeast Iowa participated in two days of academic and social activities. "Chuey" Negrete's performance highlighted the cultural aspect of the progress[[?]]. Celina Espinosa[[?]] coordinated the event. The CIASU/CIACC was also involved with two other high school visitation programs coordinated by Special Support Services: Aspirs and Project Quatxalcoatl[[?]] from Chicago, Illinois. Such visitations are vital to identifying prospective students. If you have any other suggestions as to how we can improve our outreach efforts, please notify us. Please let us know what you are doing and send addresses of Alumni you might have.
