Background Information Corn is native to the Americas. It has been eaten here for about 7,000 years. It became the staple of the Indians, who were basically nomadic until they discovered agriculture. Before agriculture, they lived in small wandering groups, hunting and eating wild vegetable matter. Corn changed their lives. They began to congregate in larger groups and eventually they formed large cities.
