JARRO-Page 10 Themes This picture stresses the ancient Indian heritage of Nex Mexico It points to similarities with the modern Indian culture. Background Information This picture is a multi-colored vase which was found at the ruins of Casas Grandes near Chihuahua, Mexico. It dates from the 11th and 12th centuries. It is painted in earth colors and has an abstract design. Both these qualities are common to other pottery found in other sites in northern Mexico. The people of Casa Grandes lived in adobe cliff dwellings similar to those found today in certain New Mexican pueblos. Note the similarities of this vase and modern Indian pottery.
