Page 24 ing. The trip was unusually pleasant. This morning I sent Aavon and seven of his men to explore one part of the city. The others and I explored the other section. Our accumulated findings are as follows: (a) This city has apparently been uninhabited for the last four cycles. (b) The remains in a library of some sort gave me the impression these people living in a world of vice and uncleanliness. (c) At the time of this race’s downfall they were about as advanced as we were in our 3,900th cycle. (d) The cause of this downfall was a number of horrible plagues caused by useless and filthy wars. (e) Their scientific achievements were of little value in stopping the dreadful plagues that swept all animal life from the planet. Personal Opinions I, for the life of me, can't see how these people existed as long as they did. They were living in a world of petty emotions, vile habits, jealousy, and greed. They had a fine planet, young and desirable, but they made a failure out of their existence. (signed) Forba, the elder. This finished the elder's report and as he looked it over he noticed a minor mistake. He had left out the location of this planet. He quickly wrote in: Place: Verges, third planet from the sun.
