Pege 54 ----- -THE ALCHEMIST ---- of New York City, Malachi McCarthy, is threatened by a series of wireless messages. Some irritated individual evidently holds no benevolent intentions toward M.M. , and warns him to leave the city immediately. To convince him that he (who is hereafter known as "Monsieur X") means business, he sends a "sign". Said sign is the failure of all electrical currents in McCarthy's skyscraper. Many other scientific phenomena follow, both local and city-wide. "X" is able to stop the vibrations of light, sound and electricity. It is feared that he may also try to stop the vibration of heat, which would mean doom to all the inhabitants of the city. But he is captured just in time----in his headquarters, next door to McCarthy! (end) The drowsy mist swirls lazily thru the swamp. The primordial slime moves sluggishly, barely preceptible. A roar shatters the heavy air as a huge mass of scalish flesh appears thru the ferns. It looks around with beady red eyes. Seeing that nothing is there to disturb the horrible tranquility of the scene, the monster squats momentarily—rising in a few minutes, it lazily waddles off with the slow rythym of a snake. But low, what is that where it has just sat? An egg, a sickening yellow egg. After resting there for a small space of time, it burst with a sharp snap.---There lying among the broken pieces Is the new dinosaur issue of The Rocket. Your issue of The Rocket at 15c from Walt Daugherty, 1039 W. 39th St., Los Angeles.
