STEFNEWS 28 Dec 46 NFFF ELECTION RESULTS Results of the 1946 election of the National Fantasy Fan Federation have been reported by ballot counter Bob Tucker. He received 86 ballots, one of which was void for lack of a signature. By his tabulation, made 26 Dec, Art Widner won the 1947 Presidency by a vote of 45 over 40 for Dale Tarr. Walter Coslet received 81 votes for Vice President, three others receiving one vote each. Votes for Secretary-Treasurer went to K Martin Carlson over Bob Petersen 67 to 15. An impeachment action which should never have appeared on the ballot and will not affect any Directorate action got 71 "yes" votes for the removal of Joe Fortier from Directorate, with only 10 opposing. The vote for a replacement by appointment of Leslie Croutch was the same. Results on the voting for the Directorate were so close that Bob has recommended that the ballots be checked by another person. He tabulated 65 votes for James Hevelin, 62 for Elsie Janda, 56 for Leslie Croutch, 45 for Benson Perry, 44 for Phil Schumann, and a spread from 43 to 25 among the remaining four candidates, Kadet, Sneary, Spencer, and Streiff. The newly elected officers will take office on 1 Jan. PERSONALS Ossie Train, of the PSFS, has been hospitalized for a varicose vein operation. "Harley Sachs is unable to get his STFFM out due to delay in obtaining ink for Tom Jewett to publish with." Tigrina has been winning on air programs again, taking home an electric iron, several dollars, and products of the sponsors during the past couple of weeks. DOC SMITH HOME SCENE OF GATHERING About a dozen local stefnists and out-of-town visitors gathered for a weekend of pleasant gabfest and serious discussion at the Chicago home of EE Smith over 7 and 8 Dec. Doc and his daughter Jeannie entertained Al and Abby Lu Ashley, Ed Counts, Bob Camden, Neil de Jack, Frank Robinson, Sam Basham, Ollie Saari, and Elsie Janda. Stef and weird stories, the next Lensmen story, a "First Lensman" tale Doc has projected to bridge the gap between "Triplanetary" and "Galactic Patrol," a hypothetical negative inertia, and a one hand, five key electric typewriter were some of the many matters discussed during the two days of visiting. Ed Counts' suggested name, "Children of the Lens," was decided to be the best yet offered for the new Lensmen sequel which Doc expects to have finished by about 1 April. COLORADO SCIENCE - FANTASY SOCIETY On 12 Dec the old Colorado Fantasy Society, originally organized to sponsor the Denvention, became the Colorado Science-Fantasy Society. Denver fandom met that evening at the home of Roy Hunt, enjoyed an "out of this world" chili supper prepared by Roy, and then elected Roy as President of the reorganized club. Bob Petersen was elected Vice President, and Charles Hansen became Soc'ty- [?] Treasurer. Thirteen persons were present, counting three juniors.
