5 [?] S T E F N E W S #73 A Fantasy Foundation Publication 1/2 price to Foundation subscribers James Hevelin A number after your address indicates the last issue of your current subscription. This issue was made possible by contributions of news from Tucker, Ashley, Hansen, Rothman, Sachs, and Tigrina. RADIO The "Dr Christian" show over CBS stations presented a fantasy play on 18 Dec. It was about a girl who was so busy she wished for an extra pair of hands---and got them! The usual dream ending spoiled it for listening fans. LASFS THEATRE PARTY More than a dozen Los Angeles fans went to the Wilshire-Ebell Theatre in that city on 20 Dec to see "Humanity Laughs," a fantasy play in which Theodore Gottleib, the raconteur who appeared at the Pacificon weird session, played an outstanding sub-role. Fantasy content was minor, post-war moral and social problems and disorders being the main theme, but those in the party enjoyed the play as a whole, especially the scenes in which Theodore was seen. He took the part of a sadistic side-show manager, and the whole audience was visibly affected whenever he appeared. The party went backstage after the final curtain for a lengthy visit with Theodore and other members of the cast. Among those present were Forry Ackerman and Tigrina, the Ashleys, Everett Evans and daughter Jonne, EA van Vogt, and several couples. James Hevelin attended on his first LA visit since his return to his mother's home on the West Coast. FANZINES AN ADVENTURE IN GOOD READING (Korshak; Litho). Fantasy book and magazine price list. Useful for bibliographical information and supplementary items included. EMBER #26 (Brazier; Ditto). Book report by Tigrina, news, oddenda, and Stanley on frogs. FANTASY-TIMES #29 (Taurasi). Pro news and ESFA reports, mention of XS-1 rocket ship, and Kishi on play and movie fantasies. KAY-MAR TRADER Dec 46 (Carlson). Editorial, ads, and sale, trade, and want lists. SPACELING Nov 46 (Allen; Hecto). Neat cover and fanzine reviews by the editor outshine letters, editorial, and fiction by Jr BEMs. Allen's cartoon and drawings also best those of Sachs and Hummell. STEFNEWS 3761 Third Street Riverside, California The editor wishes you all a happy and successful New Year.
