HUGE ATTENDANCE AT Q.S.F.L. Slight Disturbance Mars Even Tenor of Most Interesting Meeting in Months Arthur J Burks Gives Tribute to Harrison Forman The huge attendance at the Jan 5th meeting of the Queens Science Fiction League broke all records of attendance for any science fiction club meeting at any time anywhere in the world. It even exceeded the attendance of several important conferences and conventions. Credit for this world record goes to Scott Feldman and Hyman Tiger who insured the presence of celebrities and to Will Sykora who sent out invitations to more than 200 science fiction readers residing in the Metropolitan area. Among those present were: H.L. Gold, assistant editor of STANDARD P??s and his friends; H. A. Perkins associate editor of WEIRD TALES; Willy Ley; Arthur J. Burks; Isaac Asimov; Harry Walton; John Victor Peterson; Stephen G. Hale; Hannes Bok; Charles Schneeman; Julius Schwartz; Frank Belknap Long; Sam Moskowitz; Alfred Bester; Mrs. Burks and daughter; Mrs. Harrison Forman; Sandra Risa; George Walton; Jimmy Taurasi; Scott Feldman; Hyman Tiger; Mary G Byers; John V. Baltadonis; Bob Madle; Jack Agnew; Will Sykora and Mrs.; Leonard Grunbury; M. Claasseen; Tom Hoguet; Kay brickman; Julius Unger, the Mrs. and son Jay; Conrad H. Ruppert; Pearl Moskowitz; Abe Oshinsky; Frank Moroff; Eugene Walter; Mario Racic, Jr.; Frances Sykora; A. Hendricksen. Unwelcome guests, who were later given "the bounce" by Taurasi, Sykora (next col) and Moskowitz, were Dick Wilson and Dick Burford. Mary G. Byers from way out West was escorted by Isaac Asimov, and a special three-man delegation from Philadelphia was present as may be seen from the above list. The large attendance necessitated the use of a larger room so the opening of the meeting was delayed to 4 P.M. The minutes were read and because the various authors and editors and artists had but limited time to spare, they were introduced first. In a brilliant extemporaneous speech, Arthur J. Burks outlined the exploits of Mr. Harrison Forman, explorer and soldier of fortune, who in his travels in Asia and especially Tibet, uncovered many marvelous feats of seeming magic accomplished by the Tibetan Lamas. Other speakers were Mrs. Harrison Forman; Mrs. Burks, who gave several interesting sidelights on Mr. Burks home life; Mr. Asimov, Mary G. Byers; Alfred Bester; Charles Schneeman; Sandra Risa. The meeting was cut off short by the disturbance created when the two Dicks were ejected. The Hall manager, unlike the manager of Caravan Hall, was disinclined to take sides in the matter, with the result that the club has obtained a new meeting hall, more conveniently situated at which at least one meeting will be held before a permanent place is chosen. The ejection was based on a signed order from Leo Magulies dissolving the old Greater New York Science Fiction League and ordering Taurasi and Sykora to form their own organization independent of and not containing the leaders of the Futurian Society of N.Y.
