FANTASY-NEWS established June 1938 o PUBLISHED every week by William S. Sykora, P.O. Box 84, Elmont New York. o EDITED by JAMES. V. TAURASI,137-o7 32 Av,Flushing,New York [double line] NEW YORK-SUNDAY-APRIL 27, 1941 [double line] UNKNOWN GOES LARGE SIZE AND 24 CENTS! . . . . . . . . . . . [start two-column layout]CHANGES NAME FOR SECOND TIME, NOW CALLED "UNKNOWN WORLDS"!! . . . . . . . . . . . (Special to FN)Sitting in his editorial chair,Tuesday,April 22, Editor Campbell released the news that makes science-fiction history. "UNKNOWN goes large size," said Mr. Campbell, and history was made! For with those words UNKNOWN became the first fantasy magazine that started life small size and then went large size. The first, and we predict, not the last. UNKNOWN's name will be changed to UNKNOWN WORLDS, so as to explain its contents better. It will now be 8 1/2" x 11" in size, contain 128 pages and 105,000 words, which means that the present contents can be published plus a long novel, like the old days. The new price will be 25¢ and the magazine will continue to be published bi-monthly. The first issue of the large size will be the October 1941 issue. The August 1941 issue will be small size. The cover will remain the same as is, on the cover paper will be thicker. The magazine will be like DETECTIVE STORY ANNUAL that Street and Smith published recently. WILL ASTOUNDING follow UNKNOWN and become large size too? That is a question that will probably be answered by the success of the large size UNKNOWN.But then ASTOUNDING is doing quite well as is, so why change?? Time will tell! (JVT) [column break] SCHNEEMAN is in THE ARMY! ED CARTIER MAY BE NEXT!!!!! Editor Campbell informed our reporter that CHARLES SCHNEEMAN, artist of ASTOUNDING and UNKNOWN was drafted and at present "IS IN THE ARMY" His number was called and he was accepted and sent to Camp Dix in New Jersey and from there sent "down south". His space in Astounding will be filled by the other artists Street and Smith uses. Campbell also informed our reporter that Ed Cartier, "bad dreams Inc", might be the next one called up. (JVT) ANOTHER COMETEER IN THE 6th ISSUE (AUGUST) OF COMET! JAMES V. TAURASI,editor of this paper is the 3rd COMETEER to have work accepted for the 6th (August) issue of COMET. He has done a small drawing for the Short-short story Department. The other two COMETEERS in the issue are SAM MOSKOWITZ & RAY VAN HOUTEN, both with stories. COMET is skipping the June issue, and it is hoped the last skipped. NO.146 VOLUME 6 - NUMBER 15
