EDITORIAL # 1 By Gerry de la Ree,Jr. Well here is another issue of Sun Spots, and I'll bet it's a big supprise to the majority of you readers. Yes, we have double the amount of pages we had in the last issue. We do not think this will be perminent, but we'll always have Sun Spots as large as possible, you can count on that. You see, it all depends on you readers. If you want Sun Spots to stay big, and still cost but 5¢, you've got to do your share. First you must renew your subscriptions, whenever they expire. Second, you mus always give us your criticisms, since Sun Spots is your paper, and thus you should have a hand in what is printed in it. Third, you must contribute articles and stories, and thus make it possible to fill 20 pages each month. My co-editors & I have gone to much expence, needless to say, on this issue. Forinstance the picture on page 10. As you all know pictures aren't made for nothing, andthen there is the good grade of paper we're using. We don't have to use this good 20 lbs. grade, we gould get something a lot cheaper, but we believe in giving the reader the best whenever possible. Besides this we are using A.B. Dick stencils and ink, the best and most expensive mimeograph supplies made in America. All this runs into a lot of money, and so you readers can see why it is imperative for you to help in the above mentioned ways, whenever it is possible for you to do so. We are counting on you......I wish to apologise for the cover I drew this month. I seem to consider myself an artist, when I know dernwell I'm not. This month's cover, I admit is not near as good as last months, and that was nothing to rave over. So, if ever I get another chance at a Sun Spots cover, you count on me to try to make it better than this months!! The material in this issue, we believe is about the best, in fiction and fact that we have ever had. Sam Moskowitz's article, I believe, gives a very good view of the Science fiction ranks as it is today. You'll notice, as future events happen, how true his predictions are. Forinstance, all ready the one about Fantastic Adventures has come true, and it isn't making me cry! Speaking of magazines, I'm getting sick of all the monsters that are appearing on TWS's covers. The fans have been yelling for Brown to get out, and not they had better tell TWS to remove Bergey, because Bergey's monsters are no better than Brown's. Have you seen the Amazing Quarterly? Oh, boy what a let down. I at least expected some reprints, and all I got was some old issues stapled together. And the rotten stories Palmer picked. He couldn't have done worse with his eyes shut. If that rag ever appears again, Palmer hadn't!! The free issue of Future Fiction, that Horning said would go to all those that paid 35¢ for the S-f Quarterly, arrived today, featuring an excellent cover by Paul. I'm glad to see that at least one editor keeps his promises! At this point I want to plead with you readers to join the Solaroids. We need you, and want you. Lets all get together, in an active organization, unlike the Fictioneers and the S-F League!!!! Getting bored? I am!
