November, 1940. SUN SPOTS Page 15. MYSTERY LAKE ON TITAN (Continued) llowstone Park, all the craters and things", exclaimed Ed. "I wonder...why isit so barren, an' look at that black lake in the middle of it." Meanwhile, Manley and Rodney had been organizing a posse..for the general purpose of combing that section of Titan. Manley was giving them a pep talk. "Okay now boys, these birds are murderers, and they will stop at nothing!" And so a brave little band of law abiding citizens went marching out after the criminals......... "Ed, look at this", said George, holding a stick that he had just stuck in the lake. "Well, I'll be," exclaimed the other, "It's invisable; see, you can fool it, but you can't see it. Try putting your finger in George." "Oh no, you put your fingerin, " answered his companion. "Okay, scardy-cat", and drawing an invisable hand from the water, said: "See, it doesn't hurt. This is swell, cause if the cops ever do come, we can smear ourselves with this stuf, and pick 'em off, and the poor saps won't ever know what's happening. "Well, in that case," answered George, "we'd better start smearing, because here they come!!" As the posse walked through the desolate spot, one of them fell; then another. After two had fallen the rest rapidly took cover, but still the unseen foe picked off the poor men who were shooting wildly in all directions, and in a short time there were but a few remaining. Three to be exact; Manley, Rodney, and oneof the posse men. Manley wispered to the other man: "Look, up on the crater-edge." a human for was slowly collecting itself. As soon as it was visable the man put a slug through it, and George Hempstead was sent to see his master, but at the same time, the brave man collapsed with a hole in his head. At this untimly moment Rodney slipped on a lose stone, and fell unconscipus into a hole. When Manley turned around to speak to him, he was gone, so he stood up to look for him. As he did so something cold jabbed him in the ribs. "Turn around, slowly", came a cruel voice, and doing so he found himself standing in front of his double, Edgar Cotten. "So we meet at last," said Manley. "At last, is right for you flatfoot," returned the criminal. (Concluded on page 18)
