December, 1940. SUN SPOTS Page 19. that ectoplasm exists. The Trash Basket--second best feature in the mag., including all the stories. Glad you explained the too-obvious and in-artistic ending to Beling's yarn. Suggest that you DO NOT report the name of what ever is considered poorest by the majority; merely list the three or four best, and leave the rest out. It helps guys feelings, you know. Fan mag reviews--Good as any of the pros. Book reviews--Pretty good,Gerry! * * * * * * James Liachas, 6021 Vernon St. Chicago ,Ill. I was overjoyed to see 24 pages this month. The front cover was swell. The features and articles were good also. Especially did I enjoy "There May Be Werewolves". In reguard to this I have just finished a book titled "The Undying Monster", by Jessie Douglas Kerruish, published by Macmillan Co, 1936. This book is just what Mr. Wellman, in his fine article is talking about. it is the story of an undying monster which haunts a family estate in England. its victims are always found torn apart as if by some gigantic monster. it was seen several times by the masters of the estate but in every case they comitted suicide soon after without revealing what they saw. It is a very good book, and the ending was perfect. Fiction: Annual Inspection---1; Mystery Lake on Titan---2; BonTon---3; B.B.B.---4; the latter only because the others are better, it sounds like a good story. All in all, I think that I have my money's worth in this mag. Art Widner,Jr. Box 122- Bryantville,Mass. Sun Spots has improved, but you still have a great deal to be desired. Undoubtedly you offer the most pages for a nickle, but what is in them? Nothing much, as far as I can see, with the notable exception of Wellman's article. The general tenor of the mag is one of juvenile enthusiasm, and I look for continued improvment as you go along and come to realize certain things in due course of time. * * * * * * * Harry Warner, Jr. 303 Bryan Place, Haggerstown,Md. Received November Sun Spots the other day; thanks very much for it. I think this is one of the very best issues you've yet put out.; most of the material is of more intrest thanthat in former issues. The cover is really excellent, too. Only complaint is the amateur fiction, and your humor could be somewhat improved, altho it's not as bad as Groveman seems to think. Another thing:Why not get Thompson to do a regular column on the order of the Sage Says? They're among the bast things in the mag.* *Letter cut for lack of space.
