PAGE TWO FANTASY NEWS STORIES, ASTOUNDING SCIENCE FICTION, UNKNOWN, SCIENCE FICTION, and AMAZING STORIES. There was a loud speaking system and special air-conditioning plant, and comfortable accomadations [sic] for all. The hall was light and easily the largest and the best of all the halls in which conventions have been held to-date. Fans met and talked with many famous authors and editors at that early morning meeting. It was one regular parade of celebrities as such notables as Nelson S Bond, Leo Margulies, Mort Weisinger, John W Campbell Jr, Otto Binder, Manley Wade Wellman, Jack Williamson, Ross Rocklynne, Harl Vincent, Ray Cummings and others, were individually introduced to those present. Fans such as Ackerman, Rainsberg, Kuslan, Baltadonis, Speer, fairly chortled in glee as they met each other for the very first time. It was indeed a historic and notable affair. Mark Reisenberg announced, that he had been delegated by AMAZING STORIES to attend the convention and give it a special write-up for AMAZING STORIES. Among the many features of the Convention were the specially fine fan mags turned out for the affair. The Convention Program booklet, I say without hesitation and with no fear of challenge, was the finest effort of any sort, in printed format, the fan field has ever produced. Special gold cover, special drawing by Paul, the cut of which was supplied by THRILLING WONDER STORIES, advertisement from ALL the professional stf and fantasy magazines. Scoop announcement of FAMOUS FANTASTIC MYSTERIES and excellent printing. It ranks as an achievement with the convention itself. There were independent fan mags issued for the affair by Jack Speer, who turned out an excellent "History of Fandom"; "Fantasy In Opera" by Mario Racic Jr, "Fanta-Verse" and "The Grab-Bag" from Bob Formanek and Ted Dikty, "Metropolis" by Ackerman and "Stephan" by Morojo, an 8 page edition of "Cosmic Tales Special" by Russ Hodgkins, A special printed number of "Van Houten Says" by guess who, A special edition of FANTASY NEWS by Taurasi, and numerous others. The convention was called to order at about 2:15 by Sam Moskowitz, Directing Chairman. Previously all fans had signed the register in the foyer, and it was known who was present at the affair, an advantage which the "First National" did not entirely enjoy. Moskowitz launched into his "Address of Welcome" in which he thanked the audience for their attendance, and invited them to have the time of their lives. He requested that they be not in the least reticent about approaching many of the notables present, since this was not definitely a real formal affair, but a get together from which he wanted everyone present to garner as much personal pleasure as was possible under the circumstances. Due to the fact that there had been no official Secretary for the last Convention, Moskowitz hastily reviewed some of the high-sports of the event and then asked Ray Van Houten if he would accept the position of Secretary for the "WORLD CONVENTION". Van Houten graciously accepted and the affair was set to go. First called upon was Will Sykora who spoke on "Science Fiction and New Fandom". Sykora emphasized the spirit begind New Fandom which was simply to boost science diction to greater heights than it had previously known. He wished also to make clear the fact that New Fandom as a club could be depended upon. They completed, and completed successfully every project they anticipated. If one wanted something
