Wollheim I first wish to ask the indulgence of Mr. John Baltadonis and of the numerous readers of the SCIENCE FICTION COLLECTOR for what I shall have to say. I am sure that no one wants time to be wasted on this sort of battledore and shuttlecock, such as happened between myself and Sam Moskowitz in the SCIENCE FICTION FAN two years ago; but there are some things and some points which must be clarified and brought under complete light before those fans who take their fan activity seriously can rest. I have said my opinion on the main aspects of the Exclusion Act to many fans; for the first time now publicly. Sam Moskowitz has ventured forth to defend his actions and those of New Fandom. It now becomes necessary for me to defend myself against his charges, charges which if correct would indeed be damaging to myself. For all this I beg the readers' patience and consideration. I will pass over the attacks on the Los Angeles SFL and its leadership as I feel sure they can defend themselves. I wish, however, to call special attention to the main paragraph on Page Seven of the July-August COLLECTOR. I cannot refrain from commenting. Apparently Mr. Moskowitz aims to classify everyone who uses the charge "undemocratic" as being
