Page Science Fiction Collector --- Page Eleven a communist. Moskowitz hands, unconsciously, a compliment to the Communists when he charges them with most effectively carrying on the fight against undemocratic elements and actions. Mr. Moskowitz, of course, is not in the least undemocratic when he sets out to save fandom from i̲t̲s̲e̲l̲f̲. That is to save fandom from any possibility of making a majority decision not to his liking. To prevent that he is ready to go to any lengths. Fandom, it would seem, having been saved from the "tyranny of Wollheim and communism" (exactly when this strange regime took place would be interesting to find out), must be saved again. It is interesting to note that Jack Speer, no Communist, points out that Moskowitz had openly announced that New Fandom would be undemocratically controlled up to and including the Convention. Thus the charge of undemocratic procedures against New Fandom stands by Moskowitz's own admission. Incidently, it is a lie to state that communists are sworn enemies of democracy. On the contrary, they consider themselves democracy's foremost supporters, whether the rest of the world likes it or not. Moskowitz assumes I offered Wiggins the FAPA Presidency if Moskowitz would be barred from the FAN. Why doesn't Sam do in this case what he asks other fans to do in his, ask the accused? The fact is that I made no such offer of horse-trading. The actual fact was that after the appearance of the issue containing Moskowitz's false slanders against me, I wrote a very angry letter to Wiggins, curtly resigning from the staff and refusing to write for him again. Wiggins air-mailed back that he had, without asking anyone, written Moskowitz barring him from FAN's pages and begging me to reconsider.
