Science Fiction Collector Page Twenty-Three JOSEPH GILBERT--- I'd like to push my typewriter into this "exclsuion act" mess. Sam, in my opinion, was for the most part justified. Such behavior as that exhibited by the futuries deserves more than exclusion; it merits the application of the sole of the shoe to the seat of the pants. To deliberately attempt to wreck a convention, because the majority have opinions different than yours is pettiness personified, and just about the lowest-down act I can conceive of at the moment. Perhaps the soapbox boys can justify the matter in their minds, but I doubt if they will be able to in their consciences. Assuming the possession of one, of course. The cracks at the California laddies were amusing, through not quite fair, but I doubt if west-coasters appreciated them. And that brings up another angle. After attacking the story (in FNEWS about Conference) and working to disprove it, fj urged all parties to forget their differences and work for the Chicon, although after Sam's article (in 26th Collector), he might have been expected to harbor some bitterness and resentment, and to draw this thing out to a Wollheimian length. For that bit of decency, fj, I'd like to shake you vigorously by the hand. You're all right! How's chances for more Infernal Wonderer. huh? Good, I hope. You had a rather skimpy look this time. Don't let any conference do that to you. Your reputation is too good. Keep it that way, by all means. PETER DUNCAN--- I want to take this opportunity to congratulate you for your fine gesture in behalf of the interests of unbiased thinking in science-fiction. You could have knocked me over with a baseball bat when I saw that piece on weirdom in the COLLECTOR. It was one of those things I have given up all
