page 2. REGARDING THE COSMIC CIRCLE. I came in late on the feud, argument, or whathaveyou on this unfortunate matter (thank Ghu!), but since I have learned that this organization has used my name as one of its sponsors, or backers, I feel that I must waste space and time refuting this vile canard. It is true that, before my enforced vacation from Fandom, I had talked and written to Degler about forming an Indiana State-wide Fan organization, to be affiliated with the Mid-West FFF. In this connection, however, it should be stated that I had talked with, and written to, Leonard Marlow fully as much as my communications with Degler. When Claud reported that they had formed the nucleus of their organization, basing it on the Cosmic CLUB, I wrote him applying for membership, as I had planned to fo in al the State organizations, , that would be included in Mid-West. Under date of August 6, 1942, I received a letter from Degler in which he stated, in part, "Yes, we would be very glad to welcome you as a member as the the COSMIC CLUB." (The capitals were his; note it is "Club", not "Circle".) This is all that has ever passed between us regarding my joining in any organization with which is or was connected as head man, leader, president, or such -- and most certainly it did not in any way, shape or manner mean the Cosmic Circle, to which he apparently changed, without my knowledge at the time. Thus, either before or while I was gone, I most certainly did NOT sponsor, join, or encourage his "hog-wild" Cosmic Circle. Nor am I now-- very distinctly or definitely NOT-- in sympathy with what his is doing, has done, or is trying to do. Ashley tells me, even, that just a few days after I left, and before it was known to Fandom, Degler came to Battle Creek seeking to make me a State or District chairman or organizer or something of that sort, of his Cosmic Circle, even though Claud well knew that I was spending all of my spare time and most of my spare cash, trying to put the NFFF (a rival to HIS organization) across. You can imagine how far he would have gotten with that had I been at home. That act alone, to me, shows just how plain NUTS the guy is. This, then, is an admonition to, and an injunction against, the use of my name by Degler, or anyone else so misguided as to work in or for his Cosmic Circle. That applies as of this moment, and from now on. That is that! Excuse, pliz, taking up your time with this, but I felt that it had to be said. I shall now disinfect my typer before doing any more work on this "Tale". The beautiful art work in this, as well as other issues of "A Tale", are by Jack Wiedenbeck. Good, eh? No! Says Jack ASP
