An Open Letter The March 1945 issue of AMAZING STORIES published the first of a series of stories which marked the first new development in pulp magazines since 1926. During the past six years we have watched reality catch up with science fiction; and we've sought for something new to take its place. We found that something new in Richard S. Shaver's first "racial memory" story. We presented it with what many of you termed a "build-up" and called it a "true story". But letters coming in now are confirming that statement. For the first time in our history, the readers are doing the "build-up". They say: "Your Lemuria story is not fiction; it is true!" We got sidelong glances from Dunkelberger, Evans, etc when we inferred that we believed Shaver's story to be true. Nobody believed we meant it -- but inferred that we were preparing a great hoax. Now we can come out and safely say we have something new, and something sensational. The coming issues of AMAZING STORIES will prove that. At long last you fans will have something in which to sink your teeth; and we have a great wish to let fans in on the ground floor, for the simple reason that they have an already existing-organization which can act as a powerful unit to turn this type of fiction into a really influential thing. For one thing, the compliation of the complete Lemurian language. Already our desk is covered with research by readers -- enough to assure us that we have made a sensational discovery.
