Warmer Bros. • Two recent examples stand out: S.K.Taylor, head grip man, has a superstition against shaving while a picture is in progress. It's a superstition he starts several years ago when everything went wrong on a unit. Location trips prevented him from shaving for several days and then everything sailed along smoothly. Taylor was as bewhiskered as any of the tough parachutists in "Objective, Burma" when 9 few days ago Director Raoul Walsh allowed the cast to shave for the first time in six weeks. Taylor also decided to shave for the first time and guess.what happened? A big generator broke down the next day and production had to be halted for quite sometime while repairs were made.. Then there was concerted action by the entire crew in supporting Errol Flynn's contention that too much smoking was being done by members of the cast. Suggestion was made by Flynn that "tailor-made" cigarettes be abandoned until shooting of the picture had been completed and that the cast "roll their own" in order to cut down the smoking. The idea was immediately accepted by the cast, and again... guess what happened? The entire crew of almost 100 men, with but one lone exception, followed suit and Bull Durham is now the vogue. Incidentally, that lone exception was a big carpenter who complained that because of his continual sawing, his mouth was too dry for him to make his own cigarettes. - reprinted from SOUND TRACK 10
