erica First" as you do. To me they are totally different ideologies, and different ideas. I believe in free enterprise, but I also believe that there must be erected certain safe-guards for the general public against those who would abuse this free enterprise. The old days of sweat shops, share croppers, etc., should most emphatically be done away with completely. Just as there should be laws against anyone stealing my purse, so should there be laws against any one or any group stealing my business. To me there is a vast difference between a group of businessmen and/or educators, getting together and working out a set of careful plans for the good of a community, state or nation, and a bureaucracy set up to "plan" for that whole nation. Wonderful work has been done in many communities where the people of the town or city banded together to make plans for their community future. Such things are magnificent achievements, and should be encourage everywhere. That sort of "planned economy", I am eager to admit, is the sort of thing of which we ought to have a lot more than we now do. But I have been forced to grow very wary of government by administrative decree, of bureaus set up for almost anything & everything, overlapping each other, incompetently administered by those given their high posts not because of their fitness as much as because of their political abilities, and the need to "pay them off" for past political favors given and received. Thus it is the "you & I" that I am seeking to safe-guard or assist in planning for their future economy, when I bid my readers beware of the "beautiful phrases and catch-words" of those who are ambitious, not for the good of all, but for their selfish aggrandizement. We have, alas, had all too many of the latter in high places recently, and not enough of the former. Does this explanation show you more what I meant to say in the first place? Please believe that I am not trying to "back down" or "hedge" on my expressed beliefs -- I am trying merely to amplify what I said before, in a way to make my stand more clearly understood. -- EEE 25
