GALAXY Recheck BY MARY EVELYN ROGERS A long black space ship, with power cut and all lights out, swooped out of space to fire suddenly at the circular space station of the Interplanetary Drugs Association on Io. Long blue tracers, green and purple rays, shot down toward the curved dome of the observatory in the center of the station. The station, suddenly aroused in the midst of slumber, was in a turmoil, with officials of the I.D.A. running, wild-eyed, shouting conflicting orders and station attendants into each others way. With a grinding crash the Ganese dome gave way and the poisonous gas of Io filled the station. The pirate ship landed, space suited figured climbed the walls, by the aid of electromagnetic shoes, and dropped through the jagged opening, swithching their antigravitators on as they dropped. In the space of minutes the central airlock opened and the same figures hurried out to the ship, carrying grey metal boxes. Dick Sanders looked up swiftly at his best friend's face and seeing the smirk, half-hidden by an upraised hand, bent, grabbed a boot and threw with practiced ease. Jack Matthews fell flat on the floor just in time to avoid the missile and to have a heavy foot planted in the small of his back. Sputtering uncomplimentary epithets he was frozen by heading the void of his superior, Lieutenant Croston, say coldly, "Captain Brunswick wishes to see Sergeant Sanders immediately in his office." And as Jack raised himself from the floor. "Report to me at five o'clock for guard duty, Matthews." Both men saluted and the lieutenant hurried
