GALAXY 17 something." "That's nothing to get so cheerful about!" Jack exploded disgustedly, "Can't you just be thankful that they have gone without blowing our heads off instead of thinking such cheerful thoughts out loud? Holy Martian apples, you'd think you wanted them to kill us!" *Blow us to pieces," repeated Jack slowly with a strange look in his eyes, "Jack, pirates or no pirates, we got to go back. I've had a taste of waiting for death and doggone if I feel like dishing it out to anybody, even a thief." "Are you crazy? What do you mean?" Sanders, who had already started down the incline, stopped impatiently, "I mean I fixed their machine alright but I fixed it so that it would blow up just about as soon as they take off from there, and there won't be enough left of them to put on the point of a pin." "Well, why go back anyway. Did'nt they kill a whole station full of attendants? Were'nt they quite willing to kill to get the mythol? They deserve to be tricked. And think of the feather in our caps. Single handed to outwit a bunch of pirates. We'll get promoted, rewarded and everything." Sanders shook his head stubbornly, "They treated us fair and square and let us go free and I..." The sharp explosions of a rocket ship lit the air and the slender, black "Vulture" rose and shot upward. Suddenly there came an almost unbearable flash of light. A red rose blossomed in the cold airless void of space. The "Vulture" was no more. Both men stared solemnly at the spectical. They turned in silence and made their way back to their ship. It was a cold, gray day when they landed on Earth but they both thought they had never seen such a beautiful sight and spent several valuable minutes watching a scene that would in all probability remain the same for many years to come. Then they turned and walked to the lift and were whisked up to offices of the Patrol Commanders. They were shown into the Captain's office immediately on their arrival. He looked at them, smilingly.
