Sykora (Special to FN) The Aug. issue of Illustrated mechanics has a very interesting article about Rocketry with many photographs of test rockets and rocket experimenters. G. Edward Pendray, Franklin Peirce, John Sehsta and the Greenwood Lake experimenters are shown. OF INTEREST TO YOU CORNER This issue a fantasy news has been delayed two days because of a slight breakdown of the mimeographing machine. Due to this two-day delay I set the columns up with even edges. If I have time I'll do the same with future issues.---The cover of the July, 1938 ASTOUNDING was suggested by Robert D. Swisher who now has the original. Jack Speer is now making his home at 1812 R NW, Washington, D.C. Wiggins has also moved. This time to 2550 Stout Street, still in Denver Colorado.----The Planeteer will be published mimeographed, 10 pages, large size. More details in the next issue FIVE MEMBERS OF F.AP.A. WIN LAUREATE AWARDS (Special to FN) The five members who won the FANTASY AMATEUR PRESS, Laureate awards were announced by the President last week. They are: Publishing Laureate:t given to the member who had the most consistently published F.A.P.A magazine of a reasonably high quality, was won by James V. Taurasi. Editing Laureate: given to the member who most consistently published he best appearing magazine was won by John V. Baltadonis. Artist Laureate: given to the member who has done the best artwork was won by Walter E. Marconette. Poet Laureate: given to the member who has made the best poem and the literary contribution to the F.A.P.A were both won by Robert W Lowndes. All the Laureates won above were based on magazines published in the F.A.P.A during the last year. Among those who came in second were, Don A. Wollheim, Dan McPhail and Frederick Pohl. AS WE GO TO PRESS by The Editor (July 24, 1938) As we go to press to day we hear that Marconette may have his third issue of SCIENTI-SNAPS out by the end of the week. Arthur J. Burke is now working on a sequel to HELL SHIP, published in the August ASTOUNDING. In this story of the ‘ARACHUE’, us haven gotten too old to carry passengers, is turned into a freighter. It will be published in either the November or December issue of a ASTOUNDING. Wiggins’ 24th issue of FAN will also be ready this week. Along with it will be sent out the first issue of TALES OF SCIENCE. LAGUAGE FOR TIME TRAVELERS by L SPRAGUE deCAMP, published in the July issue of ASTOUNDING won more OKs than any other items in that issue, Very rare, for an article. We would like to know what regular departments of this paper you like or dislike. Do you want to see the ‘OF INTEREST TO YOU CORNER’ enlarged? Does your the ‘Movie Corner’ interest you? How about that new department ‘PREVIEW OF THE PROS’. A postcard stating your likes will do.
