20 PLUTO WHO SAID THAT? by their names--just numbers. Naturally the one closest up to Jup is Jove 1, and the one farthest away is Jove II. I hope this is not misinformation---I don't thinkso. Messeranto and Astronomical news is all right. Little Known Fantasy Literature hokay. Cartoon is good. The Black Ghost wasn't too, good--but then not too poor. "Bright Stuff By Children very good. I'm afraid that our good friend Bob, went back to diapers on that one. Who Said That is good. Hams and Pros is really all right. Sorry you forgot to include Walt's Rocket. I think that he has a good mag. Famous Jokes From Other Planets is okay. I liked the first best. Now for the back cover, which is undoubtedly the best feature in the issue. If you have a spare one, I'd like to get it so I could put it up on my wall---I don't want to rip up my file copy. Chicagoininetennforticallyours, Lew Martin ********************************************************* From Mount Vernon, Ind. I received the second Pluto a couple of weeks ago. Didn't seem so long until I decided it was high time to send in a few comments------Tempus certainly fugits when you're busy. Might have gotten at this sooner if I hadn't been slinging paint about the premises. But enough of that. Needless to say I was pleased with the improvements in the second issue. While it isn't perfect, it compared favorably with the work in the other mimeoed mags. Isn't it rather difficult to put three colors on one page, as you did on the cover, or am I showing my ignorance of the craft of mimeographing? I suppose that the best way to rate the contents would be by the--Spaceways method. Much as it pains me to say it, I never did care for fan poetry. I'm afraid I can't give more than a four on it. Don't feel too badly tho, I never did give them more than a 6 to a fan poem. It could be rather hard to rate DPUPCPI, inasmuch as it don't contain any meat in this issue. However 6 for the idea. "Make Your Own Telescope" also worth 6. Too short to give a higher rating. Messeranto can have 7. Little Known Fantasy Literature----I am rather partial to these departments and will dish up a 7. "The Black Ghost" is the best thing in the issue and rates 8. The Readers department could be made larger without angering me, or didn't you get any more letters.....5. Among The Hams and Pros takes another 5----my chief interest in this dep't is seeing how your taste compares with mine. This dep't shouldn't have more than two pages from now on, tho. Your short humorous sketches, aren't bad, in fact most of them made me smile. I rec'd the pics I won in the TWS contest OK, and very good pictures they are too; especially Wesso's and Finlay's. The Wesso Pic is the cover spread from the forthcoming TWS novel, "The Secret Of Anton York", while the one by Finlay was the illustration from "Twice In Time", showing the duel. The third picture was from "Tiger Tiger", in the latest Strange Stories. Receiving these originals has whetted my appetite and I read with twice as much jealousy of the collections of such fans as Ackerman, and the others who have dozens of Pics. I have rec'd a letter from Dikty which mentions the possibility, of a state wide organization of fans being formed. He gave no details, just asked if I was interested. The bibliography he and Shroyer Continued on page 22
