PLUTO 21 D.P.U.P.C.P.I. Continued from page 4 The following in my estimation would afford the ideal opportunity:- organic solutions are formed in Nature by the combining of certain inorganic materials which may be brought together by erosion, weathering, earthquakes or other forces of Nature. Warming of the formed solutions and further chemical reactions are brought about by the sun. As the lift forming fluid becomes warm, small bits of lifeless protoplasm are formed. At the completion of this stage, the spark is added to the tiny jellylike globules which pulsate slightly and then quickem, into rythmic activity which we know as life. (Harrumph) This natural life solution or others might be produced in the laboratory, either by accident or by intense research. Do you realize that it might be possible for a new life form, which has not preexisted, to arise daily at some point on this planet? It might be that an infinite number of life forms which were thus spontaneously generated, ailed to continue existence due to unfavorable environmental conditions. We all know that environment determines if life will continue to exist and what form it will derive. A new life form could prcipitate into being in a pond or stream in your vicinity, but the chances of this unconceived bit of life continuing existence for more than an instant, are very few, as there are indeed already teeming hordes of preexisting life ready to devour and be devoured. Death to these accidental bits of life would come soon in the laboratory unless special preparations were made for their coming. ******************************************************** ANSWERS TO SCIENCE QUIZ continued from page 11 1. It will take two minutes. That wasn't hard was it? 2. The air we exhale is warmer than the outside air and rises immediately. If the atmosphere is very hot, the air exhaled will fall only rarely will the the two temperatures be the same. 3. 160 tons. Although it is only a wave motion, light has no weight. To be exact it is the radiation pressure, which is apparent to us as weight. A searchlight, when turned on, experiences a recoil, which is measured with delicate instruments. 4. If two sounds were produced so that the condensation part of one wave met the rarefaction of the other wave, the sounds would neurtralize each other. ******************************************************** Don't forget to send your name and dime to Bob Tucker, for inclusion in the Booster Ad section of the CHICON CONVENTION BOOKLET! ******************************************************** Show your copy of PLUTO, to your fan friends; don't let them miss "THE PRIDE OF FANDOM," any longer! ******************************************************** HOW MANY FEET DOES SOUND TRAVEL PER MILE ????--send in your solution.
