COLLECTORS CLUB - continued - SCIENCE FICTION BIBLIOGRAPHY, HISTORY OF FANDOM, etc. It is now the largest, most active club in the New York area. Sam Moskowitz dropped in for a visit, chat and dinner with Art Saha, Jim Kepner and Mel Brown, recent arrivals in New York - just a short while ago. A gathering took place at the home of Gerry de la Ree, Jr.; Westwood, N.J. Sun. Sept. 21, 1945. Present were Sam Moskowitz, Joe Kennedy, Lloyd Alpough, Ron Christiansen, Gerry de la Ree, Jr. and Helen Blaikok. A really grand time was had. Joe Kennedy was exulted as "The King of the Neophytes Ron Christensen was exhorted to get up off his knees, Sam Moskowitz was reference of many pointed "girth" anologies. Gerry de la Ree, Jr. had just completed the mechanical work on "After Ten Years -- A tribute to SGW", and the gathering was impressed enough to buy the thing withoug coercion. It must be remembered that 25 cents is "big" money to most younger fans. Many photos were taken with Christensen's camera, most of which will appear in a forthcoming "Ergerzerp". The Wollheim suit was discussed, some doubts being expressed as to whether or not the statements World of A" was roundly cussed as "the stinker of the year". Typical comments being: "I've waited two weeks now, Mr. Campbell. How much longer before it percolates?" When the meeting broke up it was still undecided whether or not to form a Dero hunting expedition though the group half considered sending Palmer a worm in a box which Palmer could feed until it grew big enough to encircle and crake open the earth like a nut and finish off the Dero's like it did the Martians. Moskowitz hopes to have a "book case warming" in the near future, to which fans will be invited. Lloyd Alpough, Somerville, N.J. fans was the latest addition to fandom. He had previously visited Russell Chauvenet and at present is writing some material for Kennedy's "Vampire". Lloyd also has the beginnings of a good book collection. Another issue of FANTASY TIMES, edited by Moskowitz will be mimeographed by Kennedy and distributed shortly. THE BARLEY FIELDS, 5 fantasy novels by Robert Nattan in a single volume is still available from A. Knopf at $3. A good buy................Sam Moskowitz WEINBAUM MEMORIAL, COMMEMORATING TENTH ANNIVERSARY OF HIS DEATH PUBLISHED After Ten Years - A TRIBUTE TO SGW has been published on a non-profit basis by Gerry de la Ree, Jr. and Sam Moskowitz. This large size, 30 page publication is a top rung item for the files of any fan. In addition to Stanley G. Weinbaum's own AUTOBIOGRAPHY reprinted from "Fantasy Magazine" there are twenty-five pages of ORIGINAL MATERIAL. Featured are excellent selections from the letters of S.G. Weinbaum to Julius Schwartz, his agent containing a mecca of information never before made public. Opinions on his unpublished novel "Mad World" are rendered by John W. Campbell, Jr., Robert O. Erisman and Margaret Weinbaum. There are eulogies by Ralph Milne Farley, Raymond A Palmer and Gerry de la Ree, Jr. Complete account of Weinbaum's intimate personality and his childhood are given by his wife Margaret Weinbaum and his sister Helen Weinbaum. Sam Moskowitz has compiled "a coordinated critique" quoting the various criticisms of S.G. Weinbaum made during the past 10 years and replies of defenders, a bibliography of his scientictional work and his poem "The Last Martian" are also included. There is a professionally printed cover.
