gard this "world" convention as the exclusive property of any clique, but as the common enthusiasm of us all, and I believe that it is literally impossible for too much publicity to besent out. Speer showed me the letter, of which I'd not kept a carbon (little realizing what a furor would be raised), and I see that I forgot to tack on a postscript telling Speer to publish nothing about the Pacificon until word was received from Daugherty. Perhaps it is just as well I didn't, since this resulted in letting some fresh air into an incipient abscess.) ((The underlining is ours)) . . . It is obvious from the above that the fault was Laney's and, that it was due to his ignorance of advertising methods. It is better not to shoot your bolt all in one shot but to build up to the final by a teaser campaign, especially when the thing you are advertising is so far in the future. Well that takes care of that, but we are still left with the "deal" (as we call it) Speer says we made. Speer says that we imagine he wrote it. So we'll just leave it at that . . . we admit it's hard to read Speer's publications but that's what it said in his "purple opinion". We'll just have to assume that he lacks the gentlemanly qualities that allow for apologies. Which reminds us that there have been so many "misquotes" and inuendoes in Speer's publications of late concerning ourselves and FANEWS that we've removed said individual from our mailing list until he can learn to read correctly. We wont bother with the latest "errors" it's becoming monotonous. FAPA mailing will be sent out the last of October as the OE is waiting for Sec'y Report. Our reported postmailing will be included in the regular mailing as the delay gave us that added time we needed. TeLis Streiff tells us that Request Performance aired an Orson Welles production about a man who went into space and found that the universe was round but in the process became a satilite to the earth. It was aired Oct. 21st. Jack Roberts, 69 Erie St., Tiffin, Ohio tells us he has many stf mags to swap or sell. He'd like to have fans in that area contact him. Florence Stephenson tells us that the Oct. WRITERS JOURNAL contains a pic and article about Wollheim and tells of the wedding of Frdrick Pohl, ex-editor of ASTONISHING and SUPER SCIENCE to Lt. Dorothy Les Tina, former writer and Assis. Ed of both mags. They were married in Paris a short time ago. Sgt. Dick Wilson (Tuck Sez), former Futurian and fan from way back when is expecting his discharge within a month or two. He's in the Pacific. He expects to settle in Chicago and attend the U of Chi. Robinson is editing and Tuck publishing the Science-Fiction Yearbook for 1942-43-44 and 45. No publication dates are promised but the "Eyebrows" is hard at work on them now. ((May we suggest that an NFFF project for next year include a revamp and completer job similar to the original MAG-INDEX??)) Mel Brown, Frank Robinson and Ollie Saari taught Tuck that nasty game played with colored bits of paper and Tuck lost 45¢ (weekend of Oct. 6-7). Tuck thinks that Saari cheats. (Now boys!) Bill Deutsch is planning a fanzine URANUS but needs material. Fans contact at: 1001 West Gilbert, Muncie, Indiana. Two postcards rec'd from Tucker and Wheeler a day or two apart. Seems that they had a meeting in Washington, DC Oct. 23 and thence to Chicago (after a week in Washington) where they dropped a card Oct. 27th. The latter was one of these "Busy Correspondent Cards" (( Next Page ))
