TO ALL MEMBERS PRIOR TO 1945 FOURTH WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION: The PACIFICON was scheduled for 1942. Four years have passed since our last convention. The time is here when we must start all over on convention preparations. Many things were done for the old convention which necessitated the outlay of treasury funds. Most of these preparations are of no value in the new preparations. Pacificonews is of no value now. Pacificon stickers have the date of 1942 on them. Therefore we must start preparations over as if it were a new convention. Adding up all the memberships and various other incomes of the PACIFICON and deducting the expenses, it averages up to 46¢ per member had been expended. Again pro-rated this equals a balance of 54¢ per member left in the treasury. The CONVENTION COMMITTEE believes that all convention interested fans will feel as we do. We feel that the convention plans need a fresh start. We also believe that those who are members will be happy to do as the L.A. fans are doing by donating that 54¢ balance to a general convention fund to get started with. Therefore it is the unanimous decision of the CONVENTION STAFF that we open NEW memberships in the 4TH WORLD SCIENCE FICTION CONVENTION SOCIETY. New memberships are open and former members have their choice of the list below. For former members we shall hold your original convention number until January 1, 1946. If we have not received a reply by that date we shall consider that that person either has no interest in the convention or else has dropped from fan-sight and will enter his membership into the treasury under choice number four. CHOICE #1: Keep my 54¢ as a starter and A- enclosed is my dollar for a new membership. B- I shall send my dollar by January 1, 1946. CHOICE #2: I desire my 54¢ applied towards my new membership. Enclosed is the 46¢ balance. CHOICE #3: Return my 54¢ minus 4¢ for mailing cost as I have no further interest in fan convention activities. CHOICE #4: Keep the 54¢ but I am no longer interested in the convention or its plans. If you have checked #1: We thank you. If you have checked #2: Your new membership card will be in the mail soon. If you have checked #3: Your 50¢ will be mailed immediately. If you have checked #4: Thank you for the donation and should you change your mind we shall be happy to hear from you. Membership cards will soon be ready for mailing and all members will begin receiving all convention material as it is issued. A copy of this announcement (separate from this issue of FAN) is enclosed so that all former members will be able to CENSUS report after checking #1, #2, #3 or #4. PLEASE SEND IN YOUR CHOICE FOR THIS CONVENTION DATE: EITHER THE JULY 4TH HOLIDAYS OR THE LABOR DAY HOLIDAYS. ALSO PLEASE GIVE A REASON FOR YOUR CHOICE. THANK YOU!!! Walt Daugherty Convention Director
