cannot be compared with those at the Pacificon. Thirdly, the hotel we are using is one of the better hotels in Philadelphia. In other words, our aim is to make this convention as thoroughly respectable as a meeting of the American Chemical Society. To be respectable you have to pay money. Those who still wish to complain can kindly tell us where we can hold a convention at a more reasonable rate and not be ashamed of it. (As a matter of fact, the price we are paying for the hall is exactly the same as the price they paid at the Pacificon. It's in the individual rooms where it begins to hurt.) It must be remembered that the $6 and $8 quoted for rooms is for two people. It doesn't hurt quite so much when you split it up. Of course, you are not required to stay in this particular hotel. There are many other hotels in the city, at some of which you will be able to get lower rates. But for them you are on your own. The banquet (hold your hat, boys) will cost you in the neighborhood of $3.50. Takes your breath away, doesn't it? Ain't like the old days when you could get a T-bone steak for a half buck. There will be the usual fund set aside for those who simply don't have the money.
