PHILCON NEWS Page 6 HERE I IS AGAIN, people, your chairman: Being a lazy bunch of slugs, we had intended leaving this page blank, but upon reading what we had written on the five preceding pages, we gulped, did a double take, and hauled out another stencil. If this PhiIcon News reads as though my right hand doesn't know what my left hand is doing, that may be due to my habit of playing Bach Fugues on the piano, or it may be caused by poor liaison work in the Philcon chain of command. What I mean is, we're botching this thing up almost as badly as some botches I saw in the army. If discrepancies from page to page in prices quoted for reservations and program ads leave you confused, write to us for clarification, and then you will be no more confused than we are. Your best bet Is to ignore what is said on page three concerning hotel rooms, and to accept Bud Waldo's statement on page five as being the latest dope. Likewise, concerning the program ads, kindly ignore the business on page four regarding $25 for commercial ads. We have decided on a plan which is more fair to all concerned. For details write to Madle. Individual fan ads remain as previously stated. Do not despair, people, once we get the tangles untangled out of our procedure we are going to have a swell convention. Some of the items on the program are to be "Adventures in the Occult" by L. Sprague de Camp, a symposium on interplanetary travel conducted by Willy Ley and Thomas S. Gardner, entertainment by L. Jerome Sturgeon, Ted Sturgeon, Chan Davis, & others, and many other delectable morsels. IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT IMPORTANT The first session of the convention begins at 1 PM, August 30, 1947. Be there early so as to register in the guest book. The address of the PSPS clubroom is: 56th & Pine St, Southeast corner. You reach it by taking the 42 car on Walnut St. as shown on Page 3, get off at 56th St., and walk one block south. If you are in Philly the evening before the convention, you will find people at the clubroom. If you intend to arrive in this city prior to that evening, let me know exactly when and where, and if it is possible we will try to meet you. We recommend that you disembark at 30th St station, as it is but 5 minutes from the hotel. (Maybe 10 minutes) The 31 car will take you from 30th St. to 39th St. Or if you are a capitalist you can use a cab. There is also an elevated, but we don't recommend it. Tally ho -- Milton A.
