June 14 1940, SUN SPOTS, Price 5c MCGEE'S RETURN TO MARS by Delakin After McGee returned to Maine, He got bored stiff and went to Spain, Now Spain was in a state of war, So McGee joined up in Franco's Corp, One day McGee was in a train, When who did he meet but Jeffrey Lane, Jeff Lane remembered how, last year They'd conquered space and conquered fear; And how they'd flown to distant Mars Up in the sky among the stars, From there they'd left with much regret, A trip they would not soon forget. Their rocket ship was such a wreck, There were holes in ev'ry deck. The tubes were burnt , the rockets spent, In the hull was many a dent. McGee's rich uncle gave the dough, To fix the ship and make it go. The time was set for New Year's Eve, The crew was ready, set to leave. The gleaming ship was there at hand; Crowds were cheering the gallant band. Captain and crew approached the ship, Set to make the dangerous trip. The doors clanged shut, the rockets flared! The crowds drew back; all tense and scared. There was a roaring, rushing sound, With bullet speed it left the ground The blood red planet was their mark. As they sped onward through the dark. The ship sped onward, on through space Past the moon's great luminous face. Meteors passed the gleaming ship Almost ending into hazardous trip. At the controls McGee was set; On his brow stood out the cold sweat. Six weeks passed, and Phobos drew near, The crew was tense, but not with fear, Now the face of Mars could be seen, Canals and vegetation green. The gallant crew made ready to land; They came to rest on Mars' red sand. Space-suits were donned, they left the ship: Thus the first lap of their Martian trip. The ship was eyed from stem to stern And in good shape they soon did learn, Martian mysteries they'd unfold, And anything else that Mars did hold. Page8 What a mess Bye Hi pal Move a space suit
