May 1941 SUN SPOTS Page 9 Death of Saturn by Roderick Gactz [image: cartoon showing spaceship, explosion, planet] Uncle John dodged deftly between the mighty rings of Saturn and finds himself face to face with a hoard of space ships which when discovering his intentions of going to Saturn, begin to fire warning flares at him. "What are they trying to do, scare me away from their homes? I won't hurt them. Can't they see the welcome sign on the hull?" Apparently not, for they circled around him shooting flares, until he was about to land, and then they left him alone. As Uncle John prepares to land, he notices a monstrous fire creeping slowly across the entire face of the planet. He lands in a clear spot and starts to take souvenirs as usual, but before he knows it the fire has caught up with him; he makes a run for the ship, and barely escapes getting his breeches singed in a breath taking take-off. Hoping to beg forgiveness for his missinterpatation of their good intentions and maybe find out orme of the fire, he took after the Saturnian people, Upon finding them he conversed by mental telepathy, and found them to be very good natured. They told him that the fire was caused by a hugh cloud of very active gasses, comprised mostly of oxygen which the planet passed through every Saturnian year, or about every thirty Earth years. "This,"they said,"caused quite a bit of trouble for the before the invention of the gyro-space ships, but now everything is alright and there is a lot less death on Saturn.
