EREBUS FROM THE MEMEOS OF FANDOM HOUSE A PROGRESSIVE PUBLICATION EDITOR: LEN MARLOW ASSOCIATE EDITOR: LARRY SHAW NOTE NEW ADDRESS... CARE OF SHAW, 1301 STATE, SCHDY 4, NY NUMBER 4 Variable FACTORS I this issue Ray Karden has an article in which he brings up, among other things, variables as applied to any reasonably accurate prognostication (look it up) of the future of professional stfantasy. Such predictions, if made, without considering these variables, are unwarranted in the opinion of friend Karden. Likewise, to forecast the appearance of a fanzine -- more specifically EREBUS -- while utterly disregarding the devestating effects of such variables as time, funds, and energy available seems to be the height of folly. You've guessed it -- the next and succeeding issues of Erebus will appear, in short, when they appear. We have high hopes of attaining -- and, more important, maintaining -- a more than faitly regular schedule soon. No rash predictions, tho. The format of this issue is under par somewhat, despite the extended period of preparation. From now on we hope however to have, (1) all headings completely in color, and (2) all illustrations lino blocks (and many more of 'em). Articles, as well as fiction, will be illustrated. The set up of the headings will be altered somewhat and for the better, we think. The body of the magazine will be uniformly mimeographed in black, and the paper will probably alternate between gray and canary Cheviot for awhile, the length of this period depending upon how the circulation varys. When our stock is exhausted we will of course use anything we're lucky enough to get our hands on (including Kleenex). Anent the covers; some, as Bill Watson, seem to look on lithograph reproductions with disfavor, preferring more colorful methods such as lino blocks or the airbrush used last issue. In order to keep everyone happy, we plan to use a lithoed front cover and an airbrush back cover regularly. With this issue, EREBUS becomes a FANDOM HOUSE publication. At the same time we have acquired an associate editor, named Larry Shaw. For a long time now we've been casting around for someone to do the dirty work on this thing, and, providing we ever get to Schenectady, Shaw will do quite nicely. Note: We've moved again. The address is now 6019 Dewey Avenue, Indianapolis 1, Indiana. Thank'ee. Here's another variable to consider: the second installment of Fantastic Adventures doesn't appear in this issue. We'd like to read the rest of it ourselves, so maybe it'll show up next time, huh, Raym? Which brings us, more or less, to the matter of material. The response has been quite nice lately, but we'd still like to see more of you. Of course we're somewhat particular. Fiction of 1000 to 1500 words suits us best, fantasy only. Verse of any length, on any subject, serious or otherwise. Articles, serious or satirical, preferably one page. Longer, of course, if the subject warrants it. Any
