****************************************************************** Agenbite of Inwuit -- Spring, 1944 -- Page Eight ****************************************************************** The actual working out would take careful study, no doubt. And such a system, you might say, is open to abuse. Of course -- but what system isn't. In reference to Mexican Maria's "Does it always happen?", I refer you to Balzac. Glad you found "Vive L'Empereur" amusing; I hadn't planned it that way. Caliban #3 "Alpha Man's Perfect Day" is a classic! Walt's Ramblings The question of expulsion of any member or members from Fapa hasn't really made much stir in our existence so far, but the constitution is deficient on that score, althought the President could take action should the demand arise. It would seem to me that the sensible thing to do would be this: should serious charges against any given members or members arise, matters grave enough that their continuance of the membership rolls of the organization would endanger either our reputation, or the existence of the Fapa, then members should request action from the President. This action would be simply that of temporary suspension, pending trial. The suspended member's name would not appear on the register, should an FA be made up before the case was closed, though, were he or she entitled to it, member would receive mailing. Any magazines member had slated for mailing at that time, would be sent out separately, providing accused forwarded funds (should he or she be cleared or charges, this remittance could be credited against future dues). A brief statement of the charges against member along with whatever substantiation an investigating committee, appointed by the President, could find, would be published, containing, also, the member's defense. Along with this a ballot would be sent, wherein members would vote "guilty" or "innocent" and indicate whether or not they believed expulsion was in order. I should say two thirds of the number of votes cast (or perhaps a majority of the membership, by actul count) would be required. If expulsion was voted, then member was to be dropped from Fapa, and any dues outstanding returnded; if cleared, then member's name would be restore to rolls. Yeah -- this system is open to abuse, too! Inspiration In regard to the prevalent attitude on Negroes, I cannot think of a better living example of the old agade; Give a dog a bad name, then hang him. The Negro is denied even a fairly adequate education, and is then condemned on the grounds of being ignorant; is denied the opportunity of making a decent living, and then straightaway damned as shiftless and lazy, and is forced to dell in an environment which experience has proven beyond doubt cannot give rise to other than criminal and anti-social traits, and is thus dubbed vicious. The segregation theory in regard to any minority group is speciously absurd, even in theory, and tragically worng in practice. The result is always the same: intensification to an ever-largening degree of every socially undesirable trait, plus a group persecution psuchology leading eventually to an unreasoning desire for vengeance against the jailors. The only sensible way to weed out undesirable traits in given minority groups is by amalgamation, the shifting of environment, and the diffusion of heredity. For all their ignorant talk on the subject of Negroes, no Southerner who pretends to know anything about horses would breed them on the same theory.
