PAGE 4 Summer, 1948 H-1661 presumably a prime instinct, and there are numerous balanced persons who consider our present culture "psycho" and would like to get away to a simpler life. CHENEY, JR--You missed the point. Had I quit, there wouldn't have been any explanation; I was merely trying to clear up why I hadn't been at all active for months in answer to some queries. Newcomers and one-shots: ONE FAN'S OUTLOOK may turn out okay if it is made legible. OLD AND RARE, SOIPDALGEIF, VISIT FROM GRAHAM, & YELLUM are wasted effort. EGO BEAST is enjoyable and your attitude promises better things to come. RATING OF ROCKET FUELS will fill requirements, but it is hardly FAPA publishing. MI SKRIBAS is improving, Rick, and your stencils were legible enough that you need no apology. ANTASY ANTHOLOGY INDEX, coming from you old-timers, should have been more legible. Thanks for the listings and getting somethign more liek FAPA in for Gardner. I wonder what kind of comments MATHEMATICS Aa will get. MASQUE, in part, shows a bit of care in preparation and I hope you will have it back again. LONE INDIAN ..... makes me wonder where Claude is. SKY HOOK is the top of the new lot. I fyou keep this up you'll be getting a lot of favorable comments. I hope GOSTAK comes back. Why did you waste the time on the cover for THREE EYE? I am sorry I waited till too late for your OPINIONATOR POLL, Don. The rest of the mailing brings no comment except that MOONSHINE is improved in reproduction, but get rid of the brown and red ink. Postmailed: After reading ORACLE, I think no more need be added on the junior mailing from the pneumonuts. Thanks for your effort, I like what you say and the way you say it. LETHE is worthwhile; as for reproduction and choice of colors, I weep. ________ several nearby readers....according to...newsstands scores more __________ I think I have latched onto a couple of readers who are real fans. Howard Evans has only been reading AF for the last few years; he is aiming to keep them, too, because he is carefully doing his own work on binding them into good permanent volumes. Harold Hamilton, who I mentioned last time, introduced us. Howard and I have had some long gab-fests on stf and fandom while his wife and Hamilton played cards. When Evans showed interest in some of my fan mags I recommneded several to him and he has subscribed to two or three that I know of. He has no left California to go to work in a laboratory in Milwaukee. He was working as a lab assistant at the Citrus Experiment Station outside town here. E Aberdeen sent a few items to STEFMEWS before it folded, and then visitied me while vacationing in Pomona last summer. Aberdeen has also seen a few fan mags and has a small collection of books and the pros. We may meet at college this coming semester.
